Eric Brandon Kinghorn

–

Seattle, WA

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Eric Brandon Kinghorn passed away on June 20, 2024 at home with his family by his side.

Eric, the son of Sue Beitia and Bryan Kinghorn, was born on September 17, 1979 in Pocatello, Idaho. He spent his childhood in Boise, Idaho - the perfect city to be raised in. Where Eric and his sister, Teri could hop on their bikes to go to the New York Canal and Lake Hazel Elementary. They spent their summers in Shoshone, Idaho fishing, camping, playing lawn darts, floating the river and just being kids. Later, Eric and Teri welcomed their baby sister, Brianna whom they taught all life necessities: Nintendo, softball and Monty Python movies.

Eric loved sports and was especially talented at both baseball and basketball. He was on the Varsity Basketball team at Boise High School and was also the "O" in the adored Boise High Spirit squad, B-O-I-S-E. Eric was gregarious, an excellent storyteller, and had a remarkable way of bringing friends together. He played basketball at Northwest College in Wyoming and then transferred to the University of Idaho graduating with degrees in History and Political Science. Long after his undergraduate degrees, history and politics remained two of Eric's passions - he had a brilliant understanding of World War II and was a shrewd debater on any political argument. Eric went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from Seattle University in 2007.

In June 2004 Eric married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Erica (Thiel). After college internships brought them to Seattle, Eric and Erica went on to build their lives in Seattle- moving first to a beachside condo in West Seattle and then to their forever home in Wedgwood. Eric and Erica were the perfect duo - across twenty years of marriage, they were the team that could tackle any project, travel to any place, and weather any storm. They truly set the bar for what love and marriage looks like. Eric built an impressive career in finance, however, his real passion began in March 2009 when he and Erica had their first son, Noah Richard. This was followed in March 2011 with the birth of their twin sons, Callahn James and Zev Thomas. Eric was the consummate father and loved his three boys with every fiber in his being. He coached countless baseball and basketball teams, taught the boys how to ride a bike, fix a leaky faucet, put up Christmas lights and a million other things. He was truly their super hero. When they weren't spending weekends at soccer fields and baseball tournaments, Eric, Erica, the boys, (and usually their Westie Ally) were off on other adventures - camping trips, hiking trips, Sunriver, Disneyland, and just last summer, a tour of Ireland and Scotland. When they got home, Eric, an amazing chef and grill-master, was usually the one on dinner duty - serving mouth-watering burgers, rigatoni salsiccia, or his specialty Basque red bean soup. Eric had a way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and connected - his holiday newsletters were legend. He was warm, always kind and had a terrific (and sometimes wicked!) sense of humor.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. With a special thank you to nurse, Laura Vadman, medical assistant, Phil Gaul, Dr. Bernier, Dr. Park, Dr. Apisarnthanarax, and most especially Dr. Stacey Cohen. Their remarkable care and support gave us seven wonderful years with Eric as he fought like hell against stage IV cancer.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in memory of Eric Kinghorn or a donation to Noah, Callahn & Zev's college fund via Venmo @Erica-Kinghorn-1.
