Richard "Dick" Thomas O'Leary Obituary (1930

Richard ("Dick") Thomas O'Leary, Sr. Preceded in death by his loving wife Celine (Hulbert) O'Leary and six brothers: Mortimer, Brian, Raymond, David, Leo, and Neall. Survived by his children: Richard Jr (Dina), Seattle WA; Patrick, Billings MT; Denis (Christa), Fredricksburg TX; Celine Efimba (Motale), Falls Church VA; Kevin (Ellen) Richmond VA, 18 grandchildren: Brenna, Cailin, Declan, Thomas, Meagan, Erin, Jacob, Sean, Anna, Julia, Sam, Ciara, Ronan, Jack, Maggie, Grace, James, and Caroline, great-granddaughter Hadley, sisters Betty and Barbara and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was born June 10 1930 to James and Mary O'Leary in Chicago, IL. Dick served in the Navy before moving to Seattle, where he enrolled at Seattle University and earned a Masters in Education. After Seattle University, Dick began a 30+ year teaching career, the majority of which was spent in the Mercer Island School District. Dick met and married fellow Seattle U alum Celine Hulbert and the two settled on Capital Hill in Seattle, where they raised their five children. Dick and Celine were active members of Saint Joseph's Catholic parish, and were supporters of St. Joseph's School, O'Dea High School, and Holy Names Academy. When his health failed him, Dick was cared for lovingly by the staffs of Bessie Burton Sullivan and Foss skilled nursing facilities, and most recently by the staff of Sacred Heart Adult Family Home. Dick's family is forever grateful for the care he received at each of these facilities. Recitation of the rosary and mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church (732 18th Avenue East, Seattle) on Friday January 2nd, 2015 at 11am.
