Restituto Lopez Jumaquio Obituary (1940 - 2023)

Restituto, known to family and friends as Resty, was born in Manuyo, Las Pinas, Metro Manila, Philippines on May 29, 1940. He passed away peacefully on November 2 after a long battle with kidney disease and colon cancer. Resty was the oldest of three children and when his father left the household he helped his mother Enriqueta support his family and raise his sisters until he enlisted in the Navy in March 1958. Resty proudly served 20 years in the Navy until he retired in May 1978. His Navy service was primarily in food service and over many years worked his way up into a leadership role as a Galley Watch Captain. When he retired his Commanding Officer thanked him for his "firm and fair leadership, regardless of obstacles encountered" and "sustained exceptional professional expertise" - all qualities that carried on with him in his civilian life. He had many life experiences on the many Navy ships he served on (USS Sarsfield, USS Benington, USS Roark, USS Constellation, and finally the USS Ranger) and served in the Vietnam War. His Navy experience was an important time in his life and he often talked about and reminisced about this time in his life with fellow retired Navy friends. Resty married the love of his life, Adoracion "Doris" Antonio, in December 1964. When Resty and Doris immigrated to the United States they lived in a number of places during their lives but started their family in San Diego, California. Resty and Doris lived a long happy and blessed life together. They were blessed with three children, Rachel, Rowena, and Dennis. Resty and Doris made life-long friends in California, then moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1976 to follow Resty's Navy assignment. Bremerton (Washington) became their home until Doris' health compelled them to move to Seattle in 2016. After Doris' death, Resty continued to make Seattle his home until his recent passing. One of Resty's greatest joys was becoming a Grandfather. He loved to share his love of fishing and gardening with his grandkids, especially when he had all 5 grandkids for a few weeks each summer. We lovingly called this summer time with the Grandparents "Camp Jumaquio" and Resty and Doris loved and cherished this time to spoil their grandkids. He lived a family centered life and was so happy to experience every family member's life accomplishments and milestones -birthdays, graduations, sports games, holidays. Resty was proud of all of his family and often talked about how proud he was of them with others. Resty lived his life always in the service of others. He is fondly remembered as a good and kind man. He always welcomed others with a smile and he was fiercely loyal and passionate about life. Resty is survived by his daughters Rachel (Jason) and Rowena (Ricky), his son Dennis (Tim), and his grandchildren Taylor, Wagner, Alex, Evan, and Sofia. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, November 17th at 10:30am Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am, both at St John the Evangelist Parish 7916 1st Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98117 Burial at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery, Shoreline, WA.
