Patricia Mae Taft Obituary (1919

Patricia Mae Forhan TAFT, RN, BSN, died peacefully after a short illness on January 4th, 2013, at age 88 in the company of her husband and children. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and a beloved friend to many. She was born September 16th, 1924 in Seattle at Providence Hospital, to James Forhan and Catherine Spillane who were from Anascaul, County Kerry, Ireland. She is the fourth of five girls born to James and Catherine - Eileen, Kathleen (Tot), Margaret (Peggy) and Bonnie. She met her husband of 63 years, George H. Taft, in 1946 at Seattle University. They were blessed with 4 children, Theresa M. Sikes (Lars) of Port Ludlow, WA; John Scott Taft of Los Angeles, CA; Catherine S. Taft Heaton (Mike) of Seattle, WA; and Michael Daniel Taft of Seattle, WA. She is survived by her husband George H. Taft, her 4 children and sister Eileen Lapinski, of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly Jeanne Taft, Kelly Patricia Taft, Sabrina Sikes, Leticia Sikes and great grand daughter Quinn Sikes. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She volunteered as a Cadet in the US Nurse Corps, graduating from the Providence Hospital Nursing program in 1946. She attended the University of Washington School of Nursing, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1950. She served as an Ensign Navy nurse during the Korean War. She worked at the VA Hospital and Regional Office, Seattle; Director of St. Vincent Hospital Outpatient Clinic, Portland, Oregon; School Nurse in the Seattle school system; and retired from her position as Regional Nurse Manger in the Federal Aviation Administration Seattle Regional Headquarters. Patricia loved her family and was known for her good humor, kindness, and always had a good word to say about everyone. Her wonderful smile, love of life and spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She loved her many trips to Ireland with her husband to visit her first cousins in Anascaul and relatives in Dingle. She and her husband are founding members of Our Lady of Fatima parish in the neighborhood of Magnolia, Seattle, WA. There will be a rosary in her honor on January 11th, 7pm at Our Lady Fatima Church and a Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 10:30am, at Our Lady of Fatima Church (3218 W. Barrett, Seattle, WA) with a celebration to follow. Internment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery (5041 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA) after the reception.
