Patricia Josephine Dennehy Thenell died on July 5, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born on March 17, 1937, at Providence Hospital. Pat was a lifelong resident of Seattle, spending her early years in the Magnolia neighborhood before moving to Capitol Hill. She graduated from Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in 1954, and she earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Seattle University.
Pat met her husband, Edward Francis Thenell, during college. They married in 1960 and lived in Eugene for two years, where their two oldest children, Julie and Ed, were born. After moving back to Capitol Hill, their family grew as Marypat, Annie and Meg arrived. Pat and Ed enjoyed twelve years of marriage before Ed passed away in 1972.
Pat was a dedicated teacher who truly loved her career as an educator. Prior to starting her family, she taught in Seattle and at North Eugene High School. After the death of her husband, she began her thirty-one year career at Bishop Blanchet High School. Pat loved teaching and was devoted to her students. Throughout her career and into retirement, she was an enthusiastic supporter of all things Bishop Blanchet.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish, where she contributed in many ways and lived her faith, always believing that "the people are the church." In her retirement years, she spent her time volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, providing direct service to those in need, which she loved.
She spent her last eleven years living at Mirabella Retirement Community, which gave her great joy and became a true home.
In addition to her husband, Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Denis and Agnes Dennehy, her sister, Julie Brown, her brothers, Mike Dennehy and Denis Dennehy, her nephews, Daniel and Michael Dennehy, as well as Ed's parents, Edward and Rose Thenell, and four of Ed's siblings.
Pat is survived by her loving and large family. Her children and their spouses: Julie Thenell Grasseschi and Chris Grasseschi, Ed and Lynn Thenell, Marypat and Conrad Smucker, Annie Thenell and Doug Moll, and Meg Thenell Wolfe and Steve Wolfe. Her beloved grandchildren: Teresa Grasseschi and Shaun Callahan, Dan Grasseschi and Kay Bodmer, Maggie and Amelia Marchetti-Grasseschi, Eddie Thenell and Katy Kenealy, Erin Thenell, Patrick Smucker, Sean Smucker, Nathan Wolfe and Ana Sabarots, Abigail Wolfe, and Evan Wolfe. She is also survived by treasured sisters- and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
