Patricia H. Knowles Obituary (2012)

Patricia H. KNOWLES Patricia (Patti) Knowles died peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday, October 31, 2012. A lifelong Seattle resident, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Roy Philip in 1990, and her infant son, Robert Terrance in 1957. Patti was born to Howard and Mayme Mansfield. She was greeted by a brother, Richard, and sister, Geraldine (Jones). Later, a younger sister, Dorthy (Short) joined the family. After graduation from Holy Names Academy, Patti joined her parents and siblings in the family grocery business - Mansfield's - in Burien and Boulevard Park. She married Roy in 1949 and together they set out to own and operate their own grocery stores - Roy's Mountlake, KC Foods, Issaquah and Boulevard Park Thriftway. She was a successful business woman and hands on in all aspects of operation. She retired in 1991. Patti enjoyed participating in the Windermere Children's Hospital Guild, The Seattle Art Museum and serving as a board member for The University of Washington Press. She was a member of St. Bridget Parish, supporter and lover of the Opera and Symphony, PONCHO and numerous auctions. Besides her talent for business, Patti was an accomplished artist, homemaker and gourmet cook. But she will be fondly remembered for simply being 'Gram'. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. Patti is survived by her children and grandchildren, Philip (Lynn Smith), Tristan, Taylor and Chloe; William (Rebecca), Nico and Eric; Melinda (James Hinkle), Jourdan and Andrew. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine. Patti's memorial service was held Nov. 3, 2012, and she was interred at Calvary Cemetery. Our mama left us with a legacy of faith, love of family and a strong work ethic. We will miss her wit, sense of style and her beauty. 'Sparkle Plenty' Gram - we will miss you.
