Nicholas L. Nelson, M.D. Obituary (1920

Nick's family and friends were the joys of his life. He unconditionally loved his children Meg, Dave, John (Alicia), Jay (Barbara), Judy (Brad Henning) and Kathleen, and his sister in law, Ro. He adored his seven grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Nicholas, Sean, Christopher, Mia, and Nicky. He had a deep love for his niece, Katie. Nick loved big, loud family dinners, summertime at Lake Lucerne with the Leers and Lanes, old jazz, Seattle trivia, a party (any party), Sun Valley, picnics with his family, the sun on his face, his beautiful blue eyes, coffee, hitting the garage sales with Herk, skiing at Crystal Mountain, where he was a doctor with the ski patrol for many years, and international travel to many far-away and exotic places. Nick was a true Seattle gem. He knew everything about Seattle history, loved red wine and was fiercely independent. He was a loyal friend to all. Everyone who knew him, whether new friend or old, would likely agree that he was the most upbeat man they ever met. He lived life to the max and kept up with the ever changing world around him. His glass was always half full. Nick said many times in later years "I have had a wonderful life." In memory of Nick, have a glass of red wine, think good thoughts, be kind to each other, and toast the wonderful long life he shared with us. Visitation 1-7 PM with Rosary at 7 PM Thursday, July 24, at Columbia Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 AM Friday, July 25, 2008, at St. James Cathedral, Seattle. Private crematin will follow.
