Marie Rose (Pellicano) Mele

Born June 25, 1935, in Penticton, B.C. (Canada), Marie died peacefully at home on August 19, 2023, in Bellevue, WA. She was 88 years old.

Marie was the youngest of 6 children born to Rosa (Iraca) and John Pellicano, both immigrants from Italy. She grew up in Penticton and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Commerce, one of three women in her class. She moved to Seattle in 1958 and worked at Dean Witter Reynolds as a stock analyst. She married John Mele of Seattle in 1960, becoming a stay-at-home mom to John, Tom, Paul, and Joe. Her husband died in 1970, leaving Marie a widow. Marie never remarried and dedicated the next several years to raising her four sons. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake (OLL) parish, making lifelong friends through the OLL Women's Guild. Marie later went back to work for the Seattle School District as an Educational Assistant, retiring in 2002.

Family meant everything to Marie, and she was at her happiest spending time with her brothers, sisters, children, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was preceded in death by her brothers John, Joe, and Natale Pellicano as well as her sisters Agata Elia and Anne Heyer. She was a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Marie is survived by her four children John, Tom (Tom), Paul, and Joe (Carmela) as well as her six grandchildren Samantha (Matt), Jake, Giuseppe, Trevor, Marianna, and Mikey, all of whom she adored.
