The family of Laura Catherine Boyd grieves her premature death and the loss of her presence in our lives on July 27, 2022. Laura's gift to us was her love of family and her playful sense of humor. Laura was born on March 25, 1971, in Seattle to Anne Wickstrand and John R Boyd (Lynn). She was welcomed by her grandparents, Herb and Loretta Wickstrand and John P and Nedra Boyd, who predeceased her.
Laura was raised by her mother in the Northeast part of Seattle where she attended Assumption-St. Bridget School, and Bishop Blanchet High School. She successfully participated in youth athletics. Laura was a leading batter on her Little League baseball team in the View Ridge area. She benefited from the positive coaching and support from several coaches. Parent/coach Ed Wartelle was her ASB school basketball coach. At Bishop Blanchet she matured under coach Mr. Terry Wilkinson who was a mentor to her as a teenager and a player in varsity girls' basketball and softball. It was through these teams that she bonded to many life-long friends. Following her secondary education, she pursued a career as a registered respiratory therapist and then practiced as an RRT for 10 years. She returned to Seattle to complete her bachelor's degree at Seattle University. Then Laura followed a career in medical equipment sales related to respiratory therapy.
She cherished her family and always brought her ever-ready wit to family gatherings. In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by family including: her Uncle Pete and Aunt Karen Wickstrand who were guiding forces in her life during her school days and adulthood; her Uncle Phil Wickstrand (Pamela) of Boise Idaho; her uncle and aunt Robert and Muriel Boyd of Seattle and their adult children, Laurie Boyd (Wil Fomento) of Seattle and Bob Boyd (Leslie) of Crescent Bar WA; her brothers, J.G. Boyd (Troy Vander Pool) of Puyallup WA and Graham Boyd and his daughters Evangelene and Avery of Penticton British Columbia; her Wickstrand cousins: Charlie (Christie) and their children Bridget, Justin, and Carolyn of Palm Desert CA., Andy Wickstrand of Bellingham; Greg Wickstrand (Nicole) and their children Parker and Charlotte of San Diego CA and Cordell Wickstrand (Chelcee) and their children Cadence, Anden, Taytum and Aniston of Stansbury UT.
A Memorial Mass was held August 29, 2022, at Saint Hubert Catholic Church, Langley WA with Fr. Rick Spicer presiding. The family is grateful for his guidance and the wonderful loving support by the Saint Hubert Parish community.
Remembrances can be made to Bishop Blanchet High School or your preferred educational institution.
