Kurt Joseph Vance Obituary (1951

Kurt Joseph VANCE Age 62, of Seattle, died Saturday, October 26, after bravely battling cancer for two years. He was born in Seattle to Joseph and Colleen Vance on May 15, 1951. He was so glad to be born and to die in his beloved Puget Lowlands. He spent his childhood climbing mountains with his father and summers scrabbling on the beaches in the San Juans with his brother and friends. He grew up in Montlake and attended Garfield High, where he and Margaret got together in 1968. They were married in 1972 and just celebrated their 41st anniversary. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1995 with a degree in Latin and Classical Studies. In 1997, he earned a Master's Degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from LIOS. Kurt was dedicated to his family and to his creative and intellectual pursuits. He was always seeking to better understand himself and his relationship to the world and to his loved ones. He spoke his mind unapologetically. He was a relentless pursuer of images and ideas, drawing tirelessly, devoted to the daily practice of putting his thoughts and ideas down through countless media. His artistic output was prodigious. He adored his children and granddaughter. He was much loved by his many nieces and nephews, a holy fool that helped guide so many of them on their paths. He loved making music. Singing harmonies with Margaret was among his greatest joys. He was a dedicated Catholic and loved singing with the choir, giving glory to God. He often told us, "Don't worry about me. I'm bound for Glory." He is survived by his wife Margaret, father Joseph, sister Carol, children Henry, Elspeth, and Ivy, granddaughter Ruby, and so many nieces, nephews and others who deeply loved him that we cannot count. He was preceded in death by his mother Colleen and brother Henry.
