June Ellen Viola Ormsby Obituary (1918

June E. Ormsby, 91, passed away peacefully Oct. 29, 2009, at Providence Mt. St. Vincent in Seattle. She was born to John and Matilda Oman on June 10, 1918, in Seattle, WA. June married Leo Ormsby on July 25, 1952, in Coeur d'Alene, Id. She was preceded in death by Leo, the love of her life, by her mother and father, and by her brother, Bill Oman. June was a lifelong resident of West Seattle. She thanked God every day for the gift of living in the beautiful city of Seattle (God's country as she called it). She especially enjoyed her 12 years living on Alki Beach where she spent many hours sitting on her deck doing one of her favorite things a" people watching. She graduated from West Seattle High and attended the University of Washington. She had several jobs over the years, but her favorite and most memorable was working for the Dean of Women at Seattle University. June was also an avid gardener, reader, crossword puzzle lover and a volunteer who helped feed the homeless at various shelters throughout Seattle for many years. She was an extremely devoted member of First Lutheran Church of West Seattle, where she spent countless hours helping others. Her grandchildren, Jennifer Ryning, Marc Ryning and Alex Ormsby and Megan Ormsby, were her greatest joy. In addition to her grandchildren, June is survived by her son Dr. Frank Ryning and his wife Elaine of San Francisco, and her son Will Ormsby and his wife Cheryl of Seattle. Graveside services will be held on Sat. Nov. 7 at 9:00 a.m. at Evergreen Washelli, followed by a celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of West Seattle, 4105 California Ave. S.W. At June's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Compass Center or LATCH (Lutheran Alliance to Create Housing).
