Joan Allene La Fontaine DiJULIO
Died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Bellevue, WA of natural causes.
Born December 3, 1931 in Omak, WA, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, James P. DiJulio, Jr., and survived by their eight children, Christine Smith (Dan), David, Tom (Moira), Tim (Margarita), Brian (Barbara), Mary Lynn Thompson (John), Nancy Kissler (Mike), and Darcy Schuster (Mike); by her sister, Mary Jeannine Celio, of Appleton, WI; by her 17 grandchildren and her 9 great-grandchildren.
Joan grew up in Spokane, WA where she graduated from Holy Names Academy and was a cheerleader at Gonzaga Prep. While working with Stapleton Insurance, Joan met Jim while he was attending Gonzaga Law School and they were married in 1955. Shortly thereafter, they moved first to Seattle and eventually to the shores of Mercer Island, where they raised their family.
Joan was a well-known and much-loved volunteer, often involved in fund-raisers and events for St. Monica's Catholic community, as well as Forest Ridge and Seattle Prep High Schools, which her children attended.
As anyone who ever met her would tell you, Joan had a warm heart and a positive, creative spirit. Although she may have spent most of her life in the city, she never lost her small-town girl soul and the charm and curiosity that came with it. A life-long lover of literature, art and poetry, she was known for her ever-present smile, her warm, welcoming heart and her faith in people. She truly 'never met someone she didn't like.' She was intensely committed to her family and happily gave her time, care and love to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
