In Loving Memory of Jeanne F. Lorimer
July 30, 1928 - July 18, 2024
Jeanne F. Lorimer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age of 95. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, to Francis (Frank) and Ruth K. Fletcher, Jeanne's early life took her across the country until her family settled in Seattle in 1943.
A proud graduate of Franklin High School, Jeanne's journey continued with a lifelong commitment to education and family. In 1948, she married Stuart (Bud) Lorimer, and together they enjoyed a 65-year marriage that was a true testament to their love and partnership until Bud's passing in 2013. Their union was blessed with four children: Nance, Ruth, Stuart Jr., and Pete.
In her 30s, Jeanne pursued a degree in early childhood education and went on to work at Seattle Central Community College, where she passionately supported parents and enriched children's lives through the Parent/Child Center. Many of her grandchildren benefited from her dedicated work in the program.
Jeanne retired in 1990, after which she immersed herself in water exercises, walking around Alki, and joined the Raging Grannies. With the Raging Grannies, she performed songs advocating for peace, justice, and social and economic equality. Known for her outspoken nature and spirited presence, Jeanne relished being in the thick of exciting events, often expressing herself through original songs.
As a mother and grandmother, Jeanne was adored for her playful spirit and boundless energy. Her Seattle grandchildren knew her as a constant and loving babysitter, always eager to engage and have fun. She was especially inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, collecting RBG dolls and proudly displaying them on her walker and walls.
Jeanne's humor, unique quirks, and genuine care for others will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children: Nance Lorimer; Ruth Locke (Calvin); Stuart Lorimer Jr. (Ellen Novitski); and Pete Lorimer. Her legacy also includes eight grandchildren: Emily Locke (Neil Hoff); Sarah Lorimer (KT Raschko); Stu Lorimer (Kira Stone); Hannah Locke (Nick Barry); Ian Heriford; Jacob Locke (Kathy Nguyen); Katy Heriford; and Jesse Heriford. Jeanne is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Abe Hoff; Frances Lorimer; Mei Li Hoff; Teddy Hoff; Tillie Lorimer; Kaia Barry; and Lina Barry.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Medic One or a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 22, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM at Terry's Kitchen, 5625 119th Ave SE, Bellevue. Please RSVP to Ruth by September 15 at 206-779-6605 to assist with the headcount for the restaurant.
