Jane Z. Haugland Obituary (1924

Jane Z. HAUGLAND Born September 26, 1925 in Heppner, OR; died May 14, 2014 at her home in Seattle. Survived by Sigfred, her loving husband of almost 65 years; her children, Kathleen Hinson and Lisa Kraft; grandchildren, Margaret and Elizabeth Hinson and William and Katherine Kraft; great-grandchildren, James, Madilynn, and Michael Kraft; her sisters, Rosemary Rose (Harry) and Alice Erickson; and an extended and loving family. Preceded in death in 1992 by her son, Sigfred Einar Haugland. After graduating from Seattle College in 1947 with a B.S. in Nursing, she worked at Providence Hospital until she retired at age 70. She ran the hospital as the night supervisor skillfully managing a myriad of issues and crises affecting a major metropolitan hospital. She was a charter member of Providence Hospital's Disaster Committee, a pioneer in disaster response. She had an incredible work ethic and loved being a nurse. All those years of working allowed her husband, Sigfred, to build his clothing business on Queen Anne Avenue, of which he was always grateful. Family meant everything to Jane. She was the bond that brought the family together, hosting many family parties and picnics over the years. She was also the family historian, telling stories that made the old relatives come alive as well as collecting and documenting important events in our family's history. Everyone was welcome to her home. She had a very strong faith and believed in the power of prayer. She could be seen with a rosary in her hand much of the time and enjoyed making rosaries and giving them away so that others could seek peace and joy.
