J. Robert Larson Obituary (1942

Dr. J. Robert LARSON 1925 - 2014 Died peacefully with family at his side in the early morning hours of October 6, 2014. Born in Spokane on September 7, 1925 to Anna and Albin Larson, he moved to Seattle where he attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Seattle Preparatory School. Upon graduation from Prep, Bob enlisted in the Navy where he served from 1943 to 1946. Returning to Seattle, he continued his studies at Seattle University, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Education. He later completed his Master's at Fordham University in New York followed by a PhD in 1958 from the University of Washington. He spent his entire 44 year teaching career at S.U. In the mid 1990's, Bob received three distinguished awards: the Alumni Distinguished Service Award from Seattle Prep in 1993, Professor Emeritus at Seattle University in 1994, and the University Service Award also from S.U. in 1995 alongside his wife, Maxine. Bob served on multiple boards including the Parish Council at St. Joseph's in Seattle. He was also a member of Alpha Sigma Nu. Bob enjoyed playing cards, was an accomplished artist, and traveling with Maxine. Two travel highlights include a cruise to Alaska and a cross country road trip in their little RV, the HULK. Survivors include Maxine, his devoted wife of 64 years; his children, Jim (Ilene), Karen (Brian), Colleen (George), Bettiann (Kelvin), Bill (Carrie), John (Rita) and Chris (Stephanie) and his sister, Sr. Patricia Larson, SNJM. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Kelly, Katy, Laura, Sam, Brendan and Aidan. Our family thanks the staff of Bessie Burton and Columbia Lutheran Skilled Nursing facilities who cared for Dad for 14 years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 10, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church on Capitol Hill.
