Fredric Martin Glock died on January 25, 2026 surrounded by family. Fred was born October 31, 1936 to Herbert Fredric Glock and Norma Leah (Jacobs) Glock in McGregor, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant.
The Glock family moved to Oakland, CA in 1939 where Fred attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School and later graduated from Frick High School. He entered the US Air Force after graduation and served as a plane mechanic in Moses Lake, WA from 1960-64. Fred attended San Jose State in CA and graduated with a BA in Metallurgic Engineering. He married Nancy Clover Grueneich in Santa Clara, and they moved to Boston where they had two sons, Eric Nelson (b. 1970) and Karl Adam (b. 1973).
Fred married his second wife, Anne Oliver Bassage in 1978. He adopted Anne's daughter, Sarah Anne Collins, and they had two sons, Brooke William (b. 1979) and Michael Paul (b. 1981). During their time in Boston, they welcomed several foster children into their home and made efforts to establish a pregnancy support home for expectant mothers. Fred worked as a metallurgist at Bolton-Emerson, first in the Boston area, and then in Georgia while the family lived in Tallahassee, FL. After retiring from metallurgy, he began a second career as a IT Help desk technician for the Florida State Department of Professional Regulations.
At the turn of the century, Fred and a band of Tallahassee locals formed the Chan Buddhist Meditation Center. He married his third wife, Katherine Hannah in 2004 in Tallahassee, and together they enjoyed building up the Chan Center, drinking coffee at Starbucks, going for long walks and discussing Jungian philosophy.
Fred was sustained in his later years by Hannah and an incredible network of friends from the Chan Center. He is remembered as always willing to help and as a welcoming mentor to the younger generation at the center. Fred sustained a life-changing fall complicated by Alzheimer's in 2023, and moved to Seattle where he lived out his final years in the care of the Kline Galland Home. He spent many hours watching birds, playing Scrabble with neighbors, and helping his fellow residents with the small tasks of daily communal life. He died of the fatal effects of a stroke at the age of 89.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Norma Glock, and his eldest sister Doris Kadlecik. He is survived by his siblings, Philip Glock, Eunice Laird, Verna Tanzola, and Stephen Glock; and by his two oldest sons, Eric and Karl Adam; his adopted daughter Sarah Collins; and his younger sons Brooke Riggio (Sarah Riggio) and grandchildren Micah, Eli, Chiara, Noah, and Josiah; and Michael Bassage-Glock (Megan Bassage-Glock) and grandchildren Gloria and Jesse. He leaves behind many friends at the Kline Galland and in Tallahassee. His remains are interred at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.
