Eileen Strickland

–

Shoreline, WA

If you met Eileen Strickland, you'd remember her. Whether it was her colorful,
and sometimes whacky jewelry, her loud, welcoming voice or her earnest interest
in getting to know whomever she met, she was remarkable. She adored a good
conversation.
Eileen Strickland was born in Seattle in 1924 to Frank Greenslade and Margaret
Lechman and remained in the area for her entire life. She passed away
peacefully on June 29, 2024, four months shy of her hundredth birthday.
Marrying at 18 years old, Eileen built a full life with Stanley Strickland Sr. They
were married for 52 years and raised 11 children ... and if you didn't remember
her on her own, you'd remember her and her brood! She and Stan used their
modest resources to provide fully for their children with Stan working multiple
jobs and Eileen gardening, baking, canning, sewing, and by golly those kids
uniforms were starched and pressed. You could smell her freshly baked bread
from down the street.
She and Stan enjoyed their retirement years entertaining grandchildren, family
and friends, traveling to Mexico and across the country, camping, and
volunteering. After Stan's passing she met Frank Herkenrath, a fellow widower,
and they enjoyed a loving marriage for five years until his passing.
A devout Catholic and member of Christ the King Parish since 1930, Eileen took
Christ's teachings to heart and lived a compassionate life full of generosity and
charity. She made sandwiches for the homeless, handmade quilts for women's
shelters, and aided the sick and infirmed well into her 90s. But her deepest love
was reserved for her family. She never missed a detail, a gift (endless crocheted
hangers and raspberry jam for all!), or a phone-call.
She loved unconditionally, had a zest for life, and was often the Rummikub
champion. She will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. Eileen truly
was an extraordinary person.
She is survived by her children: Stanley Jr., Steve, Chris, Tom, Maggie, Betsy,
Mark, Noel, Mike, John, their loving partners and nearly 40 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by spouses, Stanley Strickland Sr. and Frank
Herkenrath, loving daughter, Mary Privette, and sisters, Dorothy Morton and
Sister Mary Christine, OP.
Rosary and Mass will be at Christ The King Church, 405 N 117th St, Seattle, WA.
Rosary: Thursday 8/1/24 at 6pm and Mass: Friday 8/2/24 at 10:30am.

A Celebration of Life will follow Mass.
