Donna Marie HAYES

Long-time Seattle resident Donna Hayes, age 83, died peacefully in her home on September 25, 2013 surrounded by family.

Donna was born November 12, 1929 in Waseca, MN, one of seven children of Joseph and Eva Matz. Her family relocated to Santa Maria, CA during her teenage years. Donna graduated from Santa Maria high school and worked for the Santa Barbara public health department. She married William "Bill" Hayes of San Pedro, CA in 1949. That same year they moved to Seattle, WA. Their marriage was blessed with eight children.

Donna was an especially active community and church volunteer serving the Pinehurst PTA, Pinehurst Nursing Home, St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church since 1957. Together with Bill, Donna received St. Matthew's Father William Power Award in recognition of outstanding service to their parish and the surrounding community.

Donna is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 64 years; her children, Kathleen, Patricia (Kathleen Schneider), Lawrence (Carolyn), Mark, Robert, Jeanne (Erl) Atkinson, Julie (Fred) Rodda and Margaret (Barry) Waite; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters Jeanne (Lester) Burgwardt and Margaret (Frank) McClain.

A viewing is scheduled for Friday, October 4th from 3 PM to 7 PM at
Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 5th, 2013 at 11 AM at
St. Matthew Catholic Church
1240 NE 127th St, Seattle, WA, with reception to follow and internment afterward at Holyrood Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions in Donna's honor be sent to the St. Matthew Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
