Delwin Russell Bevers Obituary (1930

Del was born in his home in Max, North Dakota, to wheat farmers, Russell and Julia Bevers. He lived there his first 21 years when he met his wife Betty in the Bismarck Hospital, where his mom was a patient. Betty was a "candy striper" and when he saw her, he told his father "I am going to marry that girl someday." The rest is history......... He worked as a fireman on the SooLine Railroad, for several years, before marrying and moving west. He often told the story of working on a train that got stuck in a snow storm for days, where he continued to draw pay at double time until they were rescued days later. He had earned enough being stranded to buy a brand new car! They got married, packed their car and headed west, flipping a coin on whether to go to California or Washington. Washington won, and Seattle became their home from then on. In Seattle, Del started working for Westinghouse Appliance Sales. His neighbor Dick Sleister convinced him shortly after to become a Vita-Milk Wholesale Driver. After several years he purchased his own milk route and developed it into one of the largest jobber routes in the area. He worked as a milkman for 25 years and was very proud of this time in his life. After all those years as a milkman, the route was sold, and he continued his lifelong sales career with Western Food Equipment Company. He worked there many years before finishing his work career at Standard Paper and Allied paper where he retired from full time work in 1995. It was shortly after this time, with a call from Darigold's Jan Roberts, that the "Got Milk Man" was created with Del reenacting the home delivery milkman. Del shined in this role wearing, bib overalls, white shirt, bow-tie, hat and driving a tricked out DIVCO milk delivery truck. As a dairy ambassador for Darigold and the Washington State Dairy Commission, Del traveled to fairs, schools, picnics, parades, and conventions; all the while promoting dairy products and meeting people. Betty and Del were lucky enough to have traveled extensively, including trips to Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and several international cruises. Del loved Hawaii, Disneyland and Disneyworld and traveled with the grandkids several times. Anyone who talked with Del knew the focus of his life (after his wife, grown kids and grandkids) was "his Cougars". His home, his car, his clothes, all attested to his love for the WSU Cougar sports teams. A highlight was being able to travel and attend the Cougar's Alamo Bowl Game in 1995 and Rose Bowl Game in 1998. Del and Betty have been members and involved with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church since moving to South Seattle 1968. His vitality and love of life touched many but if he were here today he would say that so many had touched him. The memorial service for Del Bevers will be held 11:00 AM on Jan. 19th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 19030 8th Ave S., Sea Tac, WA 98148.
