It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Benjamen Cailing, who departed this life on August 9, 2026. Born on April 15, 1937, in Ewa Beach, HI, Benjamen lived a life that was as vibrant and warm as his birthplace. A proud resident of Seattle, Washington for 51 years, he fully embraced the city's unique culture and weather, often joking that he had a "built-in refrigerator".
As poet Maya Angelou once said, "You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle three things: a rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights." By this measure, Benjamen was an extraordinary man. For over 30 years, he served as a Warehouse Foreman at Rainier Cold Storage, a role he embraced with dedication, tenacity, and a sense of humor that brightened even the coldest Seattle days. His retirement in 2000 was celebrated with fond farewells from his colleagues, who admired his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to the team.
Benjamen is remembered lovingly by his wife, Arline Cailing; his daughters, Crystal Cailing and Anacita Cailing; and his sons, Zachary Cailing, Benny Cailing and Zachary Cailing Jr. His legacy lives on through his 11 grand children , 22 great Grandchildren 4 great-great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Maximino Cailing; his mother, Aurelia Cailing; his son, Darick Sr.; and his grandson, Zachary Sr. His love for his family was as powerful and enduring as the Pacific waves, and his memory will forever be a beacon of light in their lives.
We invite those who knew and loved Benjamen to join us in celebrating his life on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:00am PDT at the Columbia & Harvey Funeral Home, 4567 Rainier Avenue South, Seattle, Washington, 98118.
