Alyshia Nicole Mims Obituary (1989 - 2019)

Alyshia was known to do things on her own terms and her own time and that began with an early delivery that took 23 hours to complete. She was born December 25, 1989 at 12:05am. She was an active child and often scared me in her adventures. She would say, "Trust me." And she continuously proved my concerns unfounded. Alyshia attended several schools throughout her education; Ford Elementary, Naval Avenue Elementary, then Baily Gatzert Elementary. She then attended Meany Middle School where she formed bonds with some of her closest friends that continued to grow throughout her high school career at Franklin High School. While attending Franklin, she joined the Microsoft Xbot team where she travelled across the country to participate in robotics competitions. When we say Alyshia was our rock, we mean it. Alyshia was a second mom to her siblings and she was a tremendous help to a single mother working to support a family of five. She would extend the love and support demonstrated at home through all parts of her life and everyone she met felt that. She was a very spiritual person that cared for others. She was very well-known at school and would still get recognized in public by people she had encountered so many years ago. She has really impacted the lives of her friends. She had so many interests it was very easy to relate with her, but she was especially ingrained in nerd culture. She loved reading books and comics, cosplay, and art. She loved attending local conventions like Comicon and Sakura Con. At work she was a strong and independent leader that wasn't afraid to do what she needed to achieve her goals. Her growth throughout her life is truly remarkable. Alyshia was a wonderful person often referred to as our Christmas present. And on March 24th, 2019, she left us to return to the hands of the creator with her father Melvin Dwayne Mims and Maternal Grandmother, Cheryl Denise Murray, and all the other family and friends who preceded her into paradise. Left to celebrate her life and memory are her mother, Vanita Taylor-Fulton; her brothers, Jonathan Taylor and Aaron Fulton Jr.; her sisters, Carthella Fulton and Khadija Butler; three aunts, two uncles, cousins; her best friends, John Mariano, Kelly Kong, Jocelyn Allison, and Loni Jean Rodrigo, and a host of other family and friends. Our family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and support, and for celebrating Alyshia's life with us.
