Agnes Yvonne (Martelez) Pelligrini Obituary (1914

Born in Menin, Belgium, in 1914, the only child of Pierre and Aurelie Martelez, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother has joined her heavenly family. Widowed at the age of 43, she lost the love of her life, Guy N. Pellegrini in 1957. They had three children: daughter, Judith M. Callahan, (John Van Bronkhorst), of Seattle: sons, Vincent Guy Pellegrini who died in 2002, survived by his wife Denise of Seattle and La Quinta, CA; and Stephen P. Pellegrini of Green Valley, AZ. Agnes immigrated to the United States at the age of 5. She never forgot her experiences of hunger and cold in World War I in her native Belgium. She embraced this country and all it had to offer with a full heart. She thought " America was the most wonderful place on earth". She was raised on Beacon Hill in Seattle, graduated from St. George School and Cleveland High School. She was a member of St. George Church for 74 years until she moved to Burien to be closer to family members. As an only child, Agnes considered the greatest joy of her life and her finest accomplishment, to be her ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. It was her wish that each be mentioned in her obituary. The children of her daughter are Kathryn Cox (John), Daniel Callahan (Susan) and Peter Callahan (Susan). The sons of Vincent are Guy Pellegrini (Meredith) of La Quinta, CA, Joseph Pellegrini of Seattle, and Anthony Pellegrini (Tami) of Lynnwood, WA. The children of Stephen are Stephen G. Pellegrini (Teri), Dena LaBellarte of Vancouver, WA, Jeneen Pellegrini-Sims (Tom Sims) of Renton and Jonathan Tillman (April) of Portland, OR. Her great-grandchildren, the "Stars" in her crown, are Jake, Andrew, Jessica, and Emily Cox of Sammamish; Jack, Bailey, Megan and Madeline Callahan of Sammamish; Isabella, Sophia and Anthony J. Pellegrini of Lynnwood; Vincent Guy Pellegrini II and Zachary Joseph Pellegrini of La Quinta, CA; Vito LaBellarte IV, Stephen and Mark LaBellarte of Seattle, Nicholas LaBellarte of Vancouver, WA and Simone Tillman. A great-granddaughter, Sarah Pellegrini, pre-deceased Agnes in 1998. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o'clock on October 31, 2008, at St. Benedict's Church, 1705 N. 49th St. in Wallingford. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Our beloved Mother/Grandmother prayed daily for the welfare of family and friends. She loved her family unconditionally. At age 94 years, 8 months, she was the family's treasure: a life well lived, with wonderful stories of days gone by. She will be in our hearts forever. Our grateful thanks to Lynda Springman and her caring staff at Seniorhaven for the loving care they have given our Mom for these last 19 months and to Evergreen Hospice.
